scriptural comparison

Why trust follows the construction

The accepted record covers the Form IV verb only. The core is trust/credence; ب and ل decide whether English says trust in or give credence to.

Quran 9:61 is the internal control: the same verb appears with بِٱللَّهِ and with لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ. The ب construction marks confidence resting in God, while the ل construction marks people whose report or claim receives credence.

The same ل pattern appears in 2:55 and 12:17, where the issue is whether a speaker will be credited. English 'believe for' usually means believing on someone else's behalf, so it cannot be used as the standing rendering of the Arabic construction.

The Hebrew evidence is supportive, not controlling. Biblical Hebrew האמין ב־ occurs where trust is placed in YHWH or Moses, while האמין ל־ can mean believing or crediting a person. That parallel supports the constructional split without forcing a root-wide Arabic core.

The accepted page therefore remains Form IV verb-only. Form I أمن and safety/security nouns keep their separate records unless they receive their own review.

believe for

2:55

وَإِذْ قُلْتُمْ يَٰمُوسَىٰ لَن نُّؤْمِنَ لَكَ حَتَّىٰ نَرَى ٱللَّهَ جَهْرَةً فَأَخَذَتْكُمُ ٱلصَّٰعِقَةُ وَأَنتُمْ تَنظُرُونَ

Alternative: We will not believe for you until we see God openly.

Research rendering: We will not give you credence until we see God openly.

The lām object is Moses as the recipient of credence. English 'believe for' normally means believing on someone's behalf, so it misreads the construction; trust/give credence keeps the relation visible.
