Why this meaning was chosen
Quran-internal review covered all three occurrences of the broken plural أَذْقَان. Those given knowledge fall upon their chins in prostration and weeping in 17:107 and 17:109; in 36:8 shackles extend from necks to chins and force the heads upward. Contact in prostration and the neck-to-face restraint jointly establish the lower front of the face. Every target has the same plural form and stable anatomical core.
