وَلَمَّا فَصَلَتِ ٱلْعِيرُ قَالَ أَبُوهُمْ إِنِّى لَأَجِدُ رِيحَ يُوسُفَ لَوْلَآ أَن تُفَنِّدُونِ

Why this meaning was chosen

The sole target is a second-person-plural Form II imperfect in Jacob's qualification of his claim that he senses Joseph. The listeners immediately answer that he remains in his old error, showing that the feared response is to discredit his perception as mentally unreliable.
