21:12

Where other meanings fail

strike once

21:12

فَلَمَّآ أَحَسُّوا۟ بَأْسَنَآ إِذَا هُم مِّنْهَا يَرْكُضُونَ

Alternative: when they sensed Our force, they were striking once away from it

Research rendering: when they sensed Our force, they were running away from it

Plural imperfect motion from the settlement and the return contrast require repeated locomotion.

stand still

21:13

لَا تَرْكُضُوا۟ وَٱرْجِعُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰ مَآ أُتْرِفْتُمْ فِيهِ وَمَسَٰكِنِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُسْـَٔلُونَ

Alternative: do not stand still; return to your luxury and dwellings

Research rendering: do not run away; return to your luxury and dwellings

A command to return contrasts with ongoing motion away, not with standing still.

run away

38:42

ٱرْكُضْ بِرِجْلِكَ هَٰذَا مُغْتَسَلٌۢ بَارِدٌ وَشَرَابٌ

Alternative: run away with your foot; this is cool washing-water and drink

Research rendering: strike with your foot; this is cool washing-water and drink

The explicit singular foot instrument and immediate localized result do not provide a source path or travel destination.

strike with your hand

38:42

ٱرْكُضْ بِرِجْلِكَ هَٰذَا مُغْتَسَلٌۢ بَارِدٌ وَشَرَابٌ

Alternative: strike with your hand using your foot

Research rendering: strike with your foot

The explicit instrumental phrase names the addressee's foot and rules out a hand-action core.
