The verb خَلَفْتُمُونِي takes Moses as its object and is explicitly followed by مِن بَعْدِي, 'after me'. It therefore exposes the family operation as following or succeeding someone in sequence. Vicegerent cannot extend compositionally into that verb without inventing a delegated office. In 7:142, Moses' separate command ٱخْلُفْنِي فِي قَوْمِي supplies Aaron's appointment contextually; 24:55 likewise confirms succession by comparing later people with those before them.
