48:24

وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِى كَفَّ أَيْدِيَهُمْ عَنكُمْ وَأَيْدِيَكُمْ عَنْهُم بِبَطْنِ مَكَّةَ مِنۢ بَعْدِ أَنْ أَظْفَرَكُمْ عَلَيْهِمْ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرًا

Why this meaning was chosen

Quran-internal review covered both occurrences. The noun at 6:146 classifies animals by possession of a grasping claw. Form IV at 48:24 describes God granting the believers mastery over opponents before restraining both sides' hands. Physical grasp and gained upper hand preserve one control-through-firm-hold core.
