وَكَيْفَ تَأْخُذُونَهُۥ وَقَدْ أَفْضَىٰ بَعْضُكُمْ إِلَىٰ بَعْضٍ وَأَخَذْنَ مِنكُم مِّيثَٰقًا غَلِيظًا

Why this meaning was chosen

The sole form IV perfect occurs between the challenge against reclaiming a wife's property and mention of the wives' solemn covenant. Its reciprocal some-to-some construction supports attained marital intimacy without requiring a more explicit imported description.
