Where other meanings fail
collective group
3:36
Alternative: I named her the collective group
Research rendering: I named her Mary
The newborn, object pronoun, name, and ensuing predicates are feminine singular.
Jesus
3:45
Alternative: his name is the Messiah, Jesus son of Jesus
Research rendering: his name is the Messiah, Jesus son of Mary
Substitution makes son and mother co-refer and destroys the explicit maternal relation.
deity
5:116
Alternative: O Jesus son of deity, did you say to the people: take me and my mother as two gods besides God?
Research rendering: O Jesus son of Mary, did you say to the people: take me and my mother as two gods besides God?
The name in the son relation identifies Jesus's mother, while deity is the separately reported and questioned classification; God is explicitly distinct.
place
19:16
Alternative: mention the place when she withdrew from her family
Research rendering: mention Mary when she withdrew from her family
The named referent is the singular feminine agent of withdrawal, not the eastern place introduced later in the same ayah.
