وَقَالَتِ ٱلْيَهُودُ عُزَيْرٌ ٱبْنُ ٱللَّهِ وَقَالَتِ ٱلنَّصَٰرَى ٱلْمَسِيحُ ٱبْنُ ٱللَّهِ ذَٰلِكَ قَوْلُهُم بِأَفْوَٰهِهِمْ يُضَٰهِـُٔونَ قَوْلَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِن قَبْلُ قَٰتَلَهُمُ ٱللَّهُ أَنَّىٰ يُؤْفَكُونَ

Why this meaning was chosen

The sole target is an unrooted nominative proper name in a statement attributed to the Jews. The verse reports that Uzayr was called God's son and then condemns the statement as a human utterance resembling earlier disbelief. The artifact retains the Quranic name without importing an external biographical identification.
