Where other meanings fail
moral virtue
2:248
Alternative: a moral virtue from what the house of Moses and Aaron left
Research rendering: a remainder from what the house of Moses and Aaron left
The noun is a contained item inherited from earlier houses; moral characterization belongs only to the 11:116 possessor construction.
immortal
2:278
Alternative: leave what is immortal of usury
Research rendering: leave what remains of usury
The verse identifies a current balance left after prior transactions, not endless existence.
remainder
16:96
Alternative: what is with Allah is a remainder
Research rendering: what is with Allah remains
The active participle predicates continuation in explicit contrast with expiration; it does not introduce a remnant object.
more lasting
26:120
Alternative: then We drowned the more lasting
Research rendering: then We drowned those remaining
The active participle identifies surviving participants; comparative duration requires elative morphology.
remain
74:28
Alternative: the fire does not remain
Research rendering: the fire leaves nothing remaining
Transitive causative valence concerns what the fire permits to continue, as the paired ولا تذر confirms.
