أَمْ حَسِبَ ٱلَّذِينَ فِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌ أَن لَّن يُخْرِجَ ٱللَّهُ أَضْغَٰنَهُمْ

إِن يَسْـَٔلْكُمُوهَا فَيُحْفِكُمْ تَبْخَلُوا۟ وَيُخْرِجْ أَضْغَٰنَكُمْ

Why this meaning was chosen

Quran-internal review covered both occurrences of the broken plural أَضْغَان in Surah 47. In 47:29 people with disease in their hearts suppose God will not bring out their resentments; in 47:37 a demanding request would provoke stinginess and bring those resentments out. The heart location, concealment, and disclosure under pressure establish inward hostile feelings. Both targets share the same possessed plural form and extraction construction.
