20:131

وَلَا تَمُدَّنَّ عَيْنَيْكَ إِلَىٰ مَا مَتَّعْنَا بِهِۦٓ أَزْوَٰجًا مِّنْهُمْ زَهْرَةَ ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ ٱلدُّنْيَا لِنَفْتِنَهُمْ فِيهِ وَرِزْقُ رَبِّكَ خَيْرٌ وَأَبْقَىٰ

Why this meaning was chosen

The sole noun appositionally characterizes enjoyments given to groups in worldly life. The command not to gaze at them and the contrast with God's better, more enduring provision establish attractive display without making endurance part of the core.
