Why this meaning was chosen
The two seas are released to flow and meet while a barrier prevents transgression; a matter is described as confused; and the substance of fire from which the jinn is created is a moving, mingling flame. The noun مَرْجَان denotes coral in two marine or jewel comparisons, but the Quran-internal contexts supply no semantic bridge from coral to unsettled movement, so it is retained as a lexical collision.
