وَٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓا۟ أَعْمَٰلُهُمْ كَسَرَابٍۭ بِقِيعَةٍ يَحْسَبُهُ ٱلظَّمْـَٔانُ مَآءً حَتَّىٰٓ إِذَا جَآءَهُۥ لَمْ يَجِدْهُ شَيْـًٔا وَوَجَدَ ٱللَّهَ عِندَهُۥ فَوَفَّىٰهُ حِسَابَهُۥ وَٱللَّهُ سَرِيعُ ٱلْحِسَابِ
Why this meaning was chosen
قَاع names the level ground left after mountains are removed and is reinforced by صَفْصَفًا. قِيعَة names the open terrain on which a mirage appears to a thirsty observer. The nominal patterns differ in formation, not in the core topography.
