وَقَطَّعْنَٰهُمُ ٱثْنَتَىْ عَشْرَةَ أَسْبَاطًا أُمَمًا وَأَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰٓ إِذِ ٱسْتَسْقَىٰهُ قَوْمُهُۥٓ أَنِ ٱضْرِب بِّعَصَاكَ ٱلْحَجَرَ فَٱنۢبَجَسَتْ مِنْهُ ٱثْنَتَا عَشْرَةَ عَيْنًا قَدْ عَلِمَ كُلُّ أُنَاسٍ مَّشْرَبَهُمْ وَظَلَّلْنَا عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْغَمَٰمَ وَأَنزَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْمَنَّ وَٱلسَّلْوَىٰ كُلُوا۟ مِن طَيِّبَٰتِ مَا رَزَقْنَٰكُمْ وَمَا ظَلَمُونَا وَلَٰكِن كَانُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ يَظْلِمُونَ

وَلَقَدْ أَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰٓ أَنْ أَسْرِ بِعِبَادِى فَٱضْرِبْ لَهُمْ طَرِيقًا فِى ٱلْبَحْرِ يَبَسًا لَّا تَخَٰفُ دَرَكًا وَلَا تَخْشَىٰ
فَأَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰٓ أَنِ ٱضْرِب بِّعَصَاكَ ٱلْبَحْرَ فَٱنفَلَقَ فَكَانَ كُلُّ فِرْقٍ كَٱلطَّوْدِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ

Why the sea command does not require 'strike'
Quran 26:63 gives the command involving the staff and then states the result: فَٱنفَلَقَ, 'so it split.' Exodus 14 describes the corresponding act as raising the staff and extending the hand over the sea; it never states a blow or contact between the staff and the water.
In the Quranic clause, بِّعَصَاكَ supplies the staff relation and ٱلْبَحْرَ the affected domain. The next clause states the result, فَٱنفَلَقَ — so it split. Rendering ٱضْرِب as 'strike' adds physical impact that neither the result clause nor the verb's other Quranic constructions independently specifies.
Exodus 14:16 uses הָרֵם אֶת־מַטְּךָ, raise your staff; וּנְטֵה אֶת־יָדְךָ עַל־הַיָּם, extend your hand over the sea; and וּבְקָעֵהוּ, split it. Verse 21 reports that Moses extended his hand, God drove the sea by a strong east wind, and the waters split. The scene uses no נכה strike verb and does not say that the staff touched the water.
This earlier-scripture comparison corroborates rather than determines the QuranGraph meaning. Quran-internal tests already reject 'strike' as the family-wide core because ضرب also governs examples, movement through the earth, and a wall between groups. Exodus 14 adds a narrower point: even the sea episode does not require an imported blow. 'Press' preserves directed force or bearing without inventing contact.

The suffix makes the women the direct object, but it does not itself specify blows. The following instruction to seek no course against them once the dispute resolves fits ending applied pressure; 'beat' imports a violent mechanism the verse does not state.

وَخُذْ بِيَدِكَ ضِغْثًا فَٱضْرِب بِّهِۦ وَلَا تَحْنَثْ إِنَّا وَجَدْنَٰهُ صَابِرًا نِّعْمَ ٱلْعَبْدُ إِنَّهُۥٓ أَوَّابٌ
Alternative: Take a bundle of sticks in your hand and strike your wife with it.
Research rendering: Take a tangle in your hand, press with it, and do not violate.
The Quran names no wife, no sticks, no number of blows, and no direct object. The pronoun in bihi is instrumental. This disproves the expanded narrative without pretending that the omitted target has been identified.
